Vehicle Information – Arlberg Snowmobile
Arlberg is one of those short-run, small-builder names from the early days of snowmobiling – the kind of sled you’d see once at a remote lake and never forget. Machines in this family followed the classic late-60s formula: a compact steel chassis, narrow ski stance, and a fan-cooled two-stroke single or twin in the 300–400cc range. That layout gave them quick throttle response and enough pull to run the ditches and river banks without feeling like a handful.
Up front, simple leaf springs and spindle skis handled the steering duties, while a bogie-wheel rear suspension and modest-lug track provided just enough traction and compliance over rough ice and wind-blown drifts. The long bench seat and rear grab bar made it easy to haul a buddy or a bit of gear, turning the Arlberg into a true all-around backwoods sled. Bright striping on the black hood helped it stand out against the snow, and today surviving Arlberg machines are prized by collectors for their oddball looks, rarity, and pure mechanical charm.
