Midnight Screamer is fully wound out – purple monster, yellow hair on fire – as he hammers a black Mercury 440 S/R across a frozen lake. Snow dust billows, skis dance, and that low black hood slices the night just like the old race ads promised. This is classic Monsters on Machines mayhem.
Printed on premium die-cut vinyl with bold color and crisp detail, this sticker is built for real-world abuse. Slap it on your sled tunnel, helmet, trailer, toolbox, shop fridge, laptop, gas can, or anywhere that needs more angry two-stroke energy. Vehicle Information – Mercury 440 S/R Snowmobile
The Mercury 440 S/R comes out of the early-’70s muscle-sled era, when outboard-motor giant Mercury took its go-fast know-how onto the snow. The S/R (Sport/Race) was the hot version of the 440 line, built around a lively twin-cylinder two-stroke in the 430–440cc class, tuned for strong mid-range pull and impressive top-end on the lake. Paired with Mercury’s responsive clutching and a lightweight chassis, the 440 S/R was known for quick holeshots and a hard, clean pull through the powerband.
A low, narrow hood and compact windshield gave the sled a racy, almost road-race look, while leaf-spring front suspension and a bogie-wheel rear kept things simple and durable. The long seat and rear grab bar made it practical for trail duty, but its natural home was on groomed ovals, drag strips, and big frozen lakes where the motor could sing. Today, Mercury 440 S/R sleds are prized by vintage collectors for their sinister black paint, strong performance, and the cool factor of owning a snowmobile built by one of the legends of high-performance marine engines.
