Vehicle Information – Mallard Snowmobile
Mallard sleds fit right into the boom years of small-brand snowmobiling, when backyard builders and short-run factories turned out machines for local riders and racers. A typical Mallard used a compact steel chassis with a mid-size fan- or free-air–cooled two-stroke twin in the 340–440cc range. That combination delivered quick throttle response and enough power to skim across frozen marshes, river bottoms, and ditch lines without feeling like an overgrown lake racer.
The sled’s narrow ski stance and short tunnel kept handling lively, while simple leaf-spring front suspension and bogie-wheel or early slide-rail rears made the machine easy to maintain with basic tools. A low windshield, squared nose, and teal bodywork with the flying Mallard logo gave it a distinctive look that stood out in a sea of yellow and red sleds.
