The Yamaha Excel V arrived in the late 1970s as a nimble, comfortable trail sled aimed at riders who wanted lively handling without giving up reliability. It used a fan-cooled twin-cylinder two-stroke engine in the ~540cc class, delivering smooth, usable power and easy cold-weather starting. Paired with Yamaha’s proven clutching and a responsive chain-drive system, the Excel V offered quick acceleration and solid mid-range pull on twisty wooded trails.
